IEEE RUET IAS (Industry Applications Society) STUDENT BRANCH CHAPTER in association with the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, RUET, and IEEE RUET STUDENT BRANCH brings you the third session of “Webinar Series on Current Research & Technology” on one of the most talked-about topics which was “100% ELECTRICITY FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES”.

Renewable source, a resource that can be utilized frequently and replenished naturally. These sources rarely run out such as solar, hydro, biomass, geothermal, wind, etc. Renewable sources restore their depleted portion through natural reproduction or other procedures in a time span. Renewable sources power 26% of our electricity needs worldwide. It is thought to be the future of electrical energy supply because it makes energy system durable, lowers the risk of a fuel spill, and lastly preserves the nation’s organic sources. But in Bangladesh, only 2.95% of its total power generation is from renewable sources. Currently, our country is using biogas, hydropower, solar power, and wind power and aiming to generate 10% of total power generation within this year.

Our speaker, Dr. Muhammad Abdul Goffar Khan discussed all renewable energy sources and the future possibilities of it in our country.

Our beloved University started its journey in 1964 named as ‘Rajshahi Engineering College’ with only three departments. On September 01, 2003, the University was given a new identity: ‘Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology’-RUET. Every year since then, 1st September is celebrated as our University Day with much love, excitement, and happiness. Celebrating ‘University Day’ is just a way of cherishing the past, celebrating the present, and hoping for some great future achievements.

To celebrate the day with an added grandeur, this year,RUET authority (office of Student Welfare), volunteered by IEEE Computer Society RUET SBC in association with IEEE RUET Student Branch, arranged a one-day event: “Celebration of University Day-2020”. The event was divided in two segments: a Poster Presentation Competition and an Innovative Project Idea Contest. Students of any university recognized by UGC from all over the country could register for the segments. Projects were either Hardware or Software-based.The winners of each segment was divided into three categories and rewarded with exciting prize money.

The Role of Electric Vehicles in Next Generation Power Systems with Renewable Generation

13 August, 2020

View facebook event

The second session of Webinar Series on "Current Research and Technology” organized by EEE Association, RUET in association with IEEE RUET IAS Student Branch Chapter and IEEE RUET Student Branch on August 13, 2020. The topic was "The Role of Electric Vehicles in Next Generation Power Systems with Renewable Generation".

Fueling with electricity offers some advantages not available in conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. Because electric motors react quickly, EVs are very responsive and has a very good torque. EVs are often more digitally connected than conventional vehicles, with many EV charging stations providing the option to control charging from a smartphone app. Since the electric grid is available almost everywhere, there are a variety of options for charging: at home, at work, or on the road. EVs can also reduce the emissions that contribute to climate change and smog, improving public health, and reducing ecological damage. Charging your EV on renewable energy such as solar or wind minimizes these emissions even more.
